Knowing what someone is saying or has said about your brand online is absolutely vital for any business.
But, the good news is that it is not hard to do and you can set up a great monitoring service for free. We recommend that to get going you start off setting up the following five tools:
- Google Alerts – Google Alerts is a free service run by Google that allows you to receive email (or RSS) updates based on keywords that you set up. You can select various options in terms of frequency and what sort of content you want to receive (web search, blog search etc.). We would suggest setting up alerts for your brand name, any product names and even key competitors
- Tweetbeep – Much like Google Alerts, Tweetbeep lets you receive email updates every time someone mentions a certain keyword on Twitter. It is easy to customise and again, we recommend setting up alerts for your company or product names and also key competitors. You could even set up alerts for anyone that tweets about your industry sector
- Omgili – Omgili is a search engine for forums. It allows you to monitor any mentions of your brand or company on forums across the web. It’s really easy to use and you can even get results delivered as an RSS feed if preferable
- Howsociable? – This is a great little website that allows you to track mentions of your company or brand across a range of different social networks and feeds. It works just like a search engine and brings up a very easy to read user interface
- Backtype – Backtype allows you to track mentions of your brand in comments on blogs or on other social networks. It integrates all mentions into an easy to use dashboard and you can choose to have mentions delivered to you via email or RSS
Monitoring what people say about you online and then responding to any comments if necessary can be a great way to ensure you are getting great online PR across the web.
Are there any other services you use that aren’t included here? Let us know in the comments.
