With the rise in popularity that Twitter has seen over the last 12 months or so, it is no surprise that brands and businesses are jumping over themselves to tweet to success.
But, be warned! Twitter, whilst not necessarily difficult to use, does still have pitfalls. So, to help you out, we’ve put together our top ‘don’ts’. Rather than being overly negative, we hope they’ll help you stay clear of any awkward moments. [Oh, and don't forget to follow us on Twitter!]
- Don’t keyword spam – don’t use keywords in your tweet unless they really aid the message. There is no SEO benefit from Twitter afterall
- Don’t over tweet – no one likes to have their feed littered with tweets from the same person. Go carefully and spread your tweets out
- Don’t be me, me, me – not every tweet has to be about you and your business, share the love and link to some other places too
- Don’t auto-DM – this is one that splits opinion. But most people seem to hate receiving auto-DMs, so don’t go there…
- Don’t hashtag spam – this is an extreme, but look at what happened to Habitat! Don’t hastag for the sake of it. Hashtags are there to serve a purpose, so don’t abuse them
- Don’t be inane – tweets that tell your followers what you had for breakfast are pointless and will get you unfollowed. By all means, let your personality shine through, but not too much!
