Blogging is hard work. Not only is it time consuming to do, but constantly coming up with new things to write about can be a challenge.
But a blog can be a very important social media marketing tool for small businesses.
With this in mind, hopefully some of these ideas will help get your creative juices flowing…
1. Go to events - if you attend industry events then do a write up on your blog. You can do a blow by blow account or focus on a particular topic that was of interest to you
2. Read other blogs – use an RSS feed reader to follow other blogs that you find interesting. You never know when a post might spark something off
3. Respond to another post you have seen elsewhere - if a post does interest you then why not write a response to it on your blog, either echoing the points raised or giving a different viewpoint
4. Think of a problem and try to come up with solutions - solving issues is a very good way of building respect on social media. Think of a problem that might be common to your customers and then offer a lost of solutions
5. Use Twitter or Facebook to find new topics – you’ll be amazed how many great ideas might be sparked off by your Twitter followers or Facebook fans
6. Encourage guest bloggers – if you are really stuck for ideas then why not offer a guest blog spot to someone else, maybe a partner, supplier or even a customer or client
7. Put your spin on a national issue – you can use traditional media for inspiration. Is there an article in the national media or in a trade publication that applies to your customers or business?
8. Talk about real life situations - if something happens and you think that the learning from it could be useful to others, then blog about it
9. Do a round-up post – why not do a weekly roundup of all the interesting articles and blog posts you have read?
10. Introduce new products and services – rather than issue a boring product press release, cover the launch on your blog and give some additional colour
11. Give a behind the scenes look at company news – similar to the last point, of you have a company announcement then cover it on your blog and give a more human take on it
What else is there? How do you get inspiration for your blog?
