Research released this week from web browser Opera finds that Facebook is now the most-visited social network on the mobile Web. According to Opera’s State of the Mobile Web report, unique users of Facebook grew more than 600% during 2009.
Unsurprisingly, Twitter saw its usage increase more than any other mobile social network, surging more than 2800% in just one year.
All of the listed social-networking sites, except for Friendster, showed significant user growth in 2009.
Opera’s CEO Jon von Tetzchner thinks the move towards accessing social media on mobile devices is a natural one: “Opera Mini proves that the key to sustained growth of the mobile Web is a capable browser. We work hard to ensure that Opera Mini works on almost every mobile phone because we are on a mission to bring the Web to the world, and the mobile phone is the world’s most prevalent communications device. It is a question of when — not if — most people will access the Web with a mobile device.”
