Reports are suggesting that Google is getting ready to add Twitter-like status updating to Gmail – it’s popular email platform.
The enhancements reportedly include a real-time contact update stream, similar to those provided by Facebook and Twitter, as well as photo and video sharing.
This is on the back of new from analyst firm Gartner that social networking services will replace email as the primary vehicle for business communications by 2014.
It also comes days after Facebook suggested that it was developing a web email platform. The reports say that Facebook is totally rewiring its current messaging service and will replace it with a fully functional email client.
With nearly 400 million users, Facebook is increasingly challenging Google and Yahoo on all fronts. And with this many users, an email service like this would certainly gain some ground.
What do you think? Would you use a Facebook email service or would you update your status in Gmail?
