A guest blog from Daniel Offer at desktop Facebook Chat instant messenger, Chit Chat for Facebook, reveals six secret weapons to obtaining traffic, and perhaps more importantly, conversions from Facebook for small businesses
Believe it or not, at this current point in time my website obtains more traffic and conversions from Facebook than from Google. More specifically, my Facebook IM homepage gets over thirty five percent of its traffic from Facebook. In this article I’m going to reveal to you the secrets to obtaining traffic that converts from Facebook.
Converting Facebook Traffic – Influence Is the Secret
I’m not going to beat about the bush, in short, the secret is influence. Jim Rohn, the motivational speaker described effective communication as “20% of what you know and 80% about how you feel about it”. Robert Cialdini wrote an award winning book on Influence, in it he described six weapons of influence we can change how people feel about your marketing messages.
Whilst his book is an excellent read, it’s not necessary to invest significant time reading his book – making small changes to your marketing efforts on Facebook could yield significant results.
The six weapons of influence that Robert Cialdini described are:
- social proof – people want what other people have and want
- commitment and consistency - commitments tend to lead to an action taking place
- liking – liking builds trust, if a friend of theirs can trust you , they can trust you
- scarcity – perceived scarcity creates demand
- authority – people tend to obey authority figures
- reciprocation – favours tend to be returned.
Whilst it is not necessary to utilise all six influence weapons in any marketing message, utilising one or more will increase your traffic and conversions.
Consider using these weapons both on your landing page and in your Facebook marketing message.
Below I will give you tips for each influence strategy outlined above:
Social Proof
- Getting your customers to write testimonials about your services to their Facebook friends.
- Getting your customers to change their status informing their friends about a recent purchase from you.
Commitment and Consistency
- Ask your customers a week after purchase via Facebook if they wish they are satisfied with your purchase and if they intend to purchase from you again, if so, give them a 10% discount coupon
- Ask your customers in a survey after purchase if they normally recommend services that they are satisfied with to both friends and family, a month later write to your customers asking if they are satisfied with their purchase, then invite them to become a “Facebook fan” or to share your landing page
Liking
- Write personal responses to customer service enquiries
- Invite satisfied customers to change to join your Facebook group/fan page
Scarcity
- Create time limited discounts/offers for referrals sent though a landing page shared on Facebook by a previous client
Authority
- Write your landing page as an authority in your niche
- Obtain testimonials from previous clients and/or famous cliental/newspapers/websites
Reciprocation
- Provide a free gift (e.g. ebook) as an incentive for visiting your domain
- Provide a free gift (e.g. ebook/discount voucher) to past cliental prior to sending your Facebook group a marketing promotion message.
