Monitoring what is being said on social networks is crucial in any social media marketing. Monitoring what is being said on Twitter is surprisingly easy and there are a number of free monitoring tools that you can use.
But what should small businesses monitor on Twitter?
Here are four things to get you started:
- Brand name – it might be obvious, but it is amazing how many companies don’t monitor their own brand name. Users on social networks now expect brands to be listening – so make sure you are!
- Products or services – monitoring your brand name might be obvious, but don’t forget that often, your customers and prospects might refer to your company by product or service name – so monitor these as well
- Competitors – looking out for moves by your competitors is important. Social media could give you some good insights so monitor what they are saying, but also what users are saying about them too
- Key influencers – draw up a list of key influencers – these could be important customers, journalists, analysts or just users with large numbers of followers. Keep an eye on what they are saying and enter into discussions when/if appropriate
