How do you use social media as a business?
I use Twitter, Facebook and YouTube for my business and work with my clients to help them use it for their businesses. I have met so many people now in person that I met via social media, many I am sure I would otherwise have not been able to. I have found that building relationships has brought me new business and opportunities. I have increased my knowledge in so many areas, that I think had I had to go out and learn it would have never happened.
What are your business/marketing objectives for social media?
My aim is to not only improve my social media skills and online presence in the mediums that suit my business but to be able to help others. Many of my clients are small local businesses that think social media is not for them. Through me building local connections I have been able in to introduce them to how it works and how effective it can be
Do you measure the success of your social media marketing? If so, how?
To be honest I haven’t really studied it, all I know is that in the past four months I have gained seven new clients, all of whom I met on Twitter or via Twitter. As a one form of measurement, it is a simple one.
How does social media fit in with the other marketing your company does?
Social media fits very well, I am a strong believer that as a whole package, online offline it can really contribute to a companies’ marketing plan. I have clients that need to reach a number of different audiences and we tailor the marketing to fit each of those audiences. Social media helps very much with this.
Do you have plans to increase your use of social media in 2010?
I will be employing an Account Executive next month and would like to be able to hand over some of the social media responsibilities to her, whilst not losing my own connections particularly on Twitter. I don’t think I could ever decrease my use just try to make it even more effective.
What would be your top 3 tips for businesses looking to get involved in social media?
- Don’t think that social media is a cheap option – it’s not it needs a time investment
- Try to be regular about your interaction, that way it is easier to build relationships
- Listen to what people say, don’t assume that they want to hear all about your products – they will but when they have got to know you. It is not a sales tool
